Sri Sri's comments about "suicide"

"Just relax! and be dead now!

Shareer ko kyun marte ho ( why do u want to kill your body ?)
Restlessness is in your mind.

By destroying your body you are not going to get anything.
Kill the mind , that is the real death you are looking for. If your
mind dies you relax. If this does not happen you cannot relax.
By destroying your body don’t think you will be at peace.
You have come to the right place.
Killing your body, your restlessness remains.
Your body is a sacred thing. It belongs to God !
What makes u so restless is your desire.
Drop that craving of yours and your mind becomes calm.
You want to compete with someone and when you cannot, you become
restless. All ambitions make u restless.

Kill your ambition, throw your ambition out.
If you are peaceful from inside you can do anything.
Aatma hatya karoge tho 400 -500 saal ghoomte rahoge (If you commit
suicide you will keep going round and round for 400-500 years !)
It is like - when u are feeling cold do you need more blankets or your
taking off your clothes will help ???!!!

Suicide is taking off your clothes when you are already feeling
cold !!!"

It is you who have shown me how precious human life is on this beautiful planet...how each second counts...and there is more love on this planet than we can comprehend!
In You, I experience the playfulness of the Krishna Consciousness, the innocence of the Shiva element, the unconditional love of Jesus, the non-violence in Lord Mahavira...and the unfathomable, soothing stillness of Lord Buddha...sometimes I wonder how You really are...a friend? a confidant? a Guru? a Father? a Mother? ...but then I smile and know one thing: I have the most beautiful life on this planet because of You.

Dont Postpone Your Happiness

Deccan Herald, 22nd March, 2010

Don’t postpone your happiness

Every living creature wants to be happy. Whether it is money, power, or sex, you get into it for the sake of happiness.

To be happy, we seek something. But despite getting it, we are not happy. A school-going boy may think that if he goes to college, he will be more independent, free and therefore happy.

If you ask a college-going boy whether he is happy, he feels that if he gets a job, he will be happy. Talk to somebody who is settled in their job or business, and you will see he is waiting to get a perfect soul mate, to be happy. He gets a soul mate, but he now wants to have kids to be happy. Ask those who have children if they are happy. How can they relax until the children have grown up and have had a good education and are on their own? Ask those who are retired, and done with all their responsibilities; are they happy? They long for the days when they were younger.

There are two ways of looking at life. One is thinking that, “Ill be happy after achieving a certain objective.” The second is saying that “I am happy come what may!” Which one do you want to live? All of one’s life is spent in preparing to be happy someday in the future. It’s like making a bed all night, but having no time to sleep.

How many minutes, hours and days have you spent your life being really happy from within? Those are the only moments you have really lived life. Those were perhaps the days when you were a small kid, completely blissful and happy or a few moments when you were surfing, swimming or sailing or on a mountain top, living in the present and enjoying it.

Happiness is living in the moment with joy, alertness, awareness and compassion. It is being free from within, feeling at home with everybody, without barriers.

Life is 80 per cent joy and 20 per cent misery. But we hold on to the 20 per cent and make it 200 per cent! It is not a conscious act, it just happens. Don’t judge and don’t worry about what others think of you. Whatever they think, is not permanent. Your own opinion about things and people keeps changing.

So why worry about what others think about you. To find harmony, it is not as if you have to physically seek it somewhere for years and practice. At some level, to some degree, everybody is meditating without being aware of it. There are moments when your body, mind and breath are all in harmony.

These are moments when you were surfing, swimming or sailing or are on a mountain top, living in the present and enjoying it. When your mind is in the present that’s when you achieve yoga. The art of living lies in the present moment. Happiness is a factor that we have to consciously pursue.

I am not against GE per se. GE can be applied to human gene therapy, they can be creating medicines in a laboratory under very carefully watched conditions. BUT WE SHOULD NOT feed the products of an infant science to millions of people.

If you look at GM food from the perspective of a simple human being, not a biotechnologist, or a scientist or an activist,...and you ask yourself:

From all the evidence discovered about the REAL threat of GM food to you, to me, to all people on this planet...would you still support GM food that has NOT been sufficiently tested by neutral bodies???

You and I know that trials of GM foods on lab animals across the world have repeatedly shown that they cause bleeding stomachs, and adversely affect brain, lungs, liver, kidney, pancreas and intestine. They have been even linked to higher offspring mortality and causing infertility.

As the most evolved, visible beings on this planet with sufficient intelligence, we are directly responsible for OUR ACTIONS AS WELL AS INACTIONS.

I am responsible for global warming and I am responsible for the insecure IT professionals who are too busy saving brownie points for their next appraisal instead of creating brownie points for the planet they owe more to.
I am responsible for the corruption among the politicians and the distorted bureaucrats that's siphoning out our country morality underneath seats of power, and stashing black money into Swiss bank accounts.
I am responsible for the junk food generation of misled teenagers (more facts) and and few over-enthusiastic ambitious biotechnologists who are spirituality deprived and do not respect the planet and its delicate natural laws.
I am responsible for educating you about it.

But I am not responsible if you choose not to look at it neutrally or neglect doing your own research:
  • beyond your education conditioning if you are a biotechnologist
  • beyond your vote bank politics if you are a politician, beyond your comfort zone of "short term gain long term pain" attitude
  • beyond your insensitivity to your environment

India is fast becoming the world’s biggest dustbin for this risky and unwanted technology. We are being told that these crops are essential for feeding the growing population, but there is not even one GM crop that produces higher yields. In fact, many of the GM crops produce less than the existing crops. And yet, as many as 56 foods crops are being genetically modified in India.
-Devinder Sharma,
Food Policy key Analyst

What we need is a moratorium on release of any GM crop and sale of any GM seed for at least next 5 to 7 years, till their safety is not assured through stringent and impartial tests, because what’s at stake here is not just our health but our very survival

You know the facts now.

The harmony of Religion, Spirituality and Politics

The role of religion is to make one righteous and loving And politics means caring for people and their welfare. When religion and politics don't coexist then you have corrupt politicians and pseudo-religious leaders.

A religious man who is righteous and loving will definitely care for the welfare of the whole population and hence becomes a true politician. And a true politician can only be righteous and loving. He cannot be anything but religious. All the Avatars and prophets have been caring for people and so were in politics. You can find many examples to this effect.

When religions restrict the freedom to worship and restrict modes of worship they become unsuitable for creating a harmonious society. When religion becomes all encompassing and gives full freedom to pray and worship in any manner -- that religion will bring righteousness and peace in people and will be suitable for any society.

People think politics and religion have to be kept separate because many religions did not give freedom to worship and did not care for all people equally. History has shown that religion has created conflict. But irreligious societies (e.g. communism) have created chaos and corruption.

Today both religion and politics need reform. Religion has to become broader and more spiritual to allow freedom of worship and broader to encompass all the wisdom in the world. And politicians have to become more righteous and spiritual.

Brilliant Answer from the Source!

Q: Guruji, I think life is miserable. What should I do?

Sri Sri:

You think life is miserable because you are hanging onto desires of the past, impossibles of the past, you are not accepting the present, you are not moving ahead or you are hoping for something too much. Correct? Be practical. Life is a mixture of problems and pleasure. What does your mind do? It messes up the problems and blows it out of proportion and makes oneself miserable. So who is responsible for your misery? Yourself.
So when is the program? When is the program not to be miserable? (Laughter) Now, right now have you gotten over your misery right now? (A dim ‘yes’ from the audience) The ‘Yes!’ should be louder (A strong ‘Yes’ this time). That is it. You know, if the room is dark for 20 years, it doesn’t take another 20 years to bring light in. it just needs one connection, one switch on and the whole darkness goes away. Your life may have been miserable in the past, but wake up and see, so what? Problems come and go in everybody’s life.
Look at your past, problems came and they have all vanished. Right? We forcefully make the problem stay, just wake up and see, where is the problem? The problem is not there. You can have some physical problem in the body sometimes, some pain here and there but is there anyone who has never suffered physical illness? Everybody has some physical problem at some point in their lives and when you violate laws of nature, pain comes, suffering comes. Pain is inevitable, suffering is optional.

Beautiful reality check

This thing just came in this morning: :-)

In true love there is no heartbreak.
A broken heart means broken demands, broken expectations, broken hopes.
How can love break?
Love cannot break!
~Sri Sri
True, isnt it?

Legendary Love

Legendary is the love that withstands rejection. It will be free of anger and ego.

Legendary is the commitment that withstands humiliation. It will be one-pointed and will reach its goal.

Legendary is the wisdom that withstands turbulence. It will be integrated into life.

Legendary is the faith that withstands a million chances of doubt. It will bring perfection-- siddhis.

Legendary are the events that withstand time. They will become morals for the millions.

"Immortal Love is within Reach"

Deccan Herald, 8th February, 2010

H.H. Sri Sri Ravi Shankar

Some say the purpose of life is to ensure that one doesn't come back to this planet because it is bereft of love. They feel if there is love then why is life so painful? All that one want in life is love. Every human being is longing for a love that doesn't die out, a love that doesn't cause pain, a love that grows and stands forever. By taking a multilateral view of life, one can see life in a different way and realise that the purpose of life is to achieve this kind of love and blossom in that ideal love.

Suppose you are immensely successful and have all the riches at your command but there is no love in your life, then life would not really be worthwhile; it would appear barren. But still most of the people lead a loveless life. Have you ever thought why this happens? It is your ego that prevents you from achieving that love. As long as there is ego, there cannot be love. And when there is love, there is no sign of ego. What is ego? Ego is simply being unnatural. Half knowledge brings ego but when knowledge becomes complete, ego drops and simplicity dawns.

The question arises that if the ego is so unnatural then why does every human being have an ego? We have the ego because it is necessary in some way for our growth in life. That doesn't mean it should not have been there from the very beginning. Ego is necessary, but with knowledge you can now grow out of it. In the Narada Bhakti Sutras one sutra says: "Knowledge is one of the aids to uncover the naturalness". Through observing oneself and deep into one’s self in meditation one can overcome ego.

Often, when someone shows a lot of love you do not know how to respond, you feel obliged and bound. This is because you are not natural. There is an ego coming in between. The ability to receive genuine love comes with the ability to give love. The more you are centered and natural and know that love is not an emotion it is your very existence, the more you feel at home with any amount of love expressed in any manner. A seed has a covering or shell over it, and when you soak it in water, it sprouts and then the shell peels off. Similarly, the ego is a necessary unnaturalness that develops as you grow. When you were a child of two or three years, there was no ego; you are in a state of total, innocent, blissful love. Then the ego forms a cover. Knowledge uncovers this shell and make you a child again; natural, simple and innocent. When you are natural, simple and innocent, there is no ego. The ego is not a substance; it is a non-substance, much like darkness. Darkness is only lack of light. There is nothing called an ego that has substance. Ego is just a lack of total development, a lack of total understanding. It is just a lack of maturity or lack of knowledge.

Delightful article on The Art Of Living International Foundation

FRIENDSHIP OF THE WORLD- CLIMAX :-)

I'll share the best known-secret in the world now: a simple, effortless nd revolutionary breathing technique called SUDARSHAN KRIYA
Its an advanced form of meditation which "successful+happy" people swear by...Abdul Kalam, NASA, AIIMS, NIMHANS, the European parliament, Dalai Lama, Nelson Mandela, they have sworn by it.
Meditation is conscious relaxation, or, restful awareness. It flushes the mind of recurring negative thoughts and emotional garbage, and is a powerful tool for healing the body, mind and spirit. Meditation gives you a rested mind free of negative emotions and stress and enables you to take more balanced decisions, with heightened awareness.
A monarch butterfly that flutters its wings in the rose of gardens of Lalbagh (Bangalore) causes a stir in ocean currents off the coast of …now think this: what would be the effect of a crowd of 1.12 billion Indians meditating in their own homes everyday? Scientists have observed that group meditation causes a dip in the stress levels of the environment all around it for miles together. And it has been proved that it affects the energy levels of people you come in touch with, it dilutes negativity and ill-intentions and gives more energy to all positive possibilities, and creative thoughts and intentions.
And we are all well-evolved human beings with good intentions inside us, who want to be live life 100% and enable health and life to flow to everyone around.
With this thought in mind, the Youth Empowerment and Skills (YES!+) series of workshops were designed. YES!+ teaches practical all-aspects-covered meditation and breathing techniques .
Drug de-addiction centers, alcoholics groups, suicide counselling groups, juvenile detention centres, and such similar philanthropic organizations are doing their part for the youth who are into alcohol, drugs, smoking, who are suicidal, violent, and so on. But 27 years ago, His Holiness Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, lovingly called as the Guru of Joy, knew the need to intervene at the stage before all these issues of substance abuse, depression, STDs, suicidal or homocidal tendencies start.
It does not make sense for counselling NGO's to wait for a teenager from a dysfunctional family to get into depression or smoking. It isn't meaningful to wait for a relationship breakup to lead to promiscuous sex or substance abuse, before alcoholics anonymous or AIDS groups intervene. Even more, its stupid shortsightedness to wait until a youngster under academic pressure resorts to suicide, before philanthropy starts. Instead it makes all the sense to intervene before drugs, alcohol, smoking, depression, violence or suicide attempt happen. This is ALSO what YES!+ does.
Your intellect may argue: But I am a normal person.
Ok dear, but "normal" is a subjective term.
I am successful.
Ok dear, but "at what cost are you successful?" How many times in a day do you smile without a reason?
I am happy.
Ok dear, you are happy because you have this and that. Will you still be happy if unfair coincidence snatches away the things that makes you happy?
Let's get practical.
YES!+ facilitates my life with SIMPLE and PRACTICAL techniques that makes me dynamic on o-u-t-s-i-d-e, unshakeably calm i-n-s-i-d-e. Its a shortcut from The Head To The Heart!
. . .head-to-heart is important so that:
...success can never cloud the intellect
...over-ambition may not eat one's true happiness away
...lack of awareness may never overstep simplicity and respect for the environment
...and power may not corrupt one.
For me, YES!+ workshop has been the most fulfilling experience of my life, and I simply cannot keep this off-the-charts Happiness Quotient with me..I want everyone to experience this equation of "success = unshakeable smile + unputdownable enthusiasm".
The rest of the stuff in life....job, relationship, money.....will automatically follow......like byproducts of your "YES!" mind (as Bawu sayz :-))
I see more sense in YES!+ today after the recent terrorist bloodbath at Mumbai. Youth are a symbol of energy...potential..enthusiasm...change.....and an innocence-intelligence balance. I invite you to enrol for the next workshop happening in your city or country and collectively EXPRESS our solidarity as youth of one world against any diabolical extremist force that threatens our peaceful coexistence. Your participation to this workshop will add value to your life, empower you to do all the good things you always wanted to do, and add your voice in tribute to our brave soldiers who have laid down their lives in unconditional valor for us.
Besides meditation and loads of fun, practical skills will be taught in interactive workshops that attend to all levels of existence (includes restoring the healthy bounce back to body, and developing a uncluttered super-mind that can relax and focus @ same time, and also influence the environment effortlessly). These techniques are right now being practiced by millions across the globe, and its healing effects have been tested and validated by researchers, doctors and scientists world over. Something that we have not learnt at school/college/offices, but which are essential for effective and stress-free, positive living. And learn it for a cause…to be stress-free and spread good vibes at a time when we need more of acceptance, good vibes and action, not words or lame complaints. It is time now to respond and not react.

“One peaceful mind attracts harmony in situations and people around. Six and a half billion peaceful minds create an unshakable civilization.”
